To help consumers and even business users find the best laptops for their needs, Consumer Reports recently published it latest ratings on laptops based on performance, versatility, display quality and more. It ranks the laptops to make it easy for people to find the hardware that trumps all others across a variety of categories. Consumer Reports makes no distinction between smaller notebook-class models and larger laptops. All these models run Windows. 2Dell XPS 13 XPS9360
Dell’s popular XPS 13 XPS9360 running on Windows 10 Home landed at the top of the Consumer Reports list with a score of 81 out of a possible 100. The device earned high marks for its portability and performance, and Consumer Reports found it to have a solid 13-inch display. However, its versatility was one of the few low marks for the computer.
3LG Gram 13
The LG Gram 13 similarly secured a score of 81 and a “Recommended” rating from Consumer Reports. The device, which comes with a 13-inch touch screen, earned the highest marks on portability and performance. And although its scores were strong across all other metrics, its display was rated just behind that of the Dell XPS 13.

5HP Spectre 15
HP’s Spectra 15 was the highest-rated 15-inch device in the Consumer Reports rankings, with a score of 80. The device was one of the few laptops that Consumer Reports rated not to receive anything below a “very good” score, and it earned “excellent” marks for its ergonomic design, performance, display quality and touch-screen quality.
6Dell XPS 13 XPS9365
Dell’s XPS 13 XPS9365 landed a couple points behind its XPS9360 version with a score of 79. The 13-inch computer had all “excellent” and “very good” ratings in the roundup. The “excellent” ratings were earned for portability and display quality. The computer also proved to be a nicely thin and light computer.
7Lenovo Yoga 910
The Lenovo Yoga 910 earned the distinction of being the top-rated 14-inch laptop in the Consumer Reports study with a score of 79. The computer earned an “excellent” rating in ergonomics, portability and performance, and was given a “very good” rating for display and touch-screen quality. However, its versatility was only considered “good.”
8Samsung Notebook 9
With a score of 79, the Samsung Notebook 9 was the second-highest-rated computer in the 15-to-16-inch category. The device scored an “excellent” rating for portability, performance and display quality. But on versatility, the Samsung Notebook 9 only earned a “good” rating, according to Consumer Reports.
9HP Spectre x360 13t
The 13-inch HP Spectre x360 13t earned a score of 79 in the Consumer Reports evaluation. The computer notched “excellent” ratings for its portability and performance, and “very good” ratings on ergonomics, display quality and touch-screen quality. Its versatility score of just “good” brought down its rating.

LG’s Gram 14, which comes with a 14-inch touch-screen display, earned a score of 77. The computer secured an “excellent” rating for portability and performance, and “very good” ratings for ergonomics, versatility and display technology. Its touch screen, however, was just “good.”
